In the third episode of Upside Down Podcast, we’re chatting it up about what it really means to be “blessed”.
In a world of hashtags, it’s become all too easy to consider ourselves #blessed when life is going well. We’ve all done it, or something similar. But in doing so, what are we unintentionally saying about the hard times? Are we not blessed when things don’t go according to plan? Are we not blessed when our child is diagnosed with a serious illness, or when we don’t know how we’re going to pay the bills? Or maybe, just maybe, have we gotten the very concept of “blessed” terribly wrong? In this episode we dive into what the Scriptures teach us about the truth of being blessed, and it’s not always what we want to hear. Lindsy asks what it looks like for a poor single Christian Haitian mom to be “blessed” and Kristi hits it home by saying the Gospel is Good News, and if it isn’t Good News for everyone then it isn’t the Gospel. We end it with a bit of silliness, talking about what emoji best represents us right now. Mine is the monkey covering his eyes, so now you know a little more about the state of my life right now! In Episode 2 of the Upside Down Podcast, we take a look at what the Bible has to say about safety, how Jesus lived, and how these truths influence our lives. Coming from five very different communities, we discuss the role of the Holy Spirit and trusting him to lead each person to the right place for them. We discuss what it looks like to idolize safety, and how the conversation of safety is primarily a privileged one. Lori and I (Lindsy) address those who would call us "risk seekers" and Lori invites you to move into her neighborhood! We also share some light-hearted fun and discuss our guilty music pleasure. I'll go ahead and give mine away... Beyonce. What's yours? Find us on Instagram or Facebook and let us know your thoughts on Safety + Fear. What resonated with you? What rubbed you the wrong way? Hey y'all!
Lori here. Welcome to our first episode of the Upside Down Podcast! In this episode, you'll hear the backstory of how this podcast came to be, how we landed on the name Upside Down, and how the five of us met! You'll also be introduced to each of us more personally, hear what three fictional characters we think best reflect who we are (or who we want to be), and be encouraged to do one thing, right now to bring the kingdom come right where you are. When we think of what it means to follow Jesus, we can't help but consider that the King of the universe chose to enter our world in the very opposite way that we would expect a king to arrive. He came as a brown skinned baby, born to a virgin woman in a filthy barn. His father was a Jewish carpenter who would pass on his trade to his son who would eventually deconstruct every thing the world ever believed about the kingdom of God and their Messiah. Jesus flipped the entire world on its head with every word He spoke, every parable He taught, every person He touched, every law He fulfilled and every law He abolished. Jesus came that we might follow Him into the margins of society and live counter culturally to everything the world is preaching at us. This is the upside down kingdom and this is the more you will be invited to consider in this episode. So glad you're here!! |
